Clear the decks (into Room 101)

People are talking about a new world order emerging from the present financial chaos. But if we are going to build a new business world order, we will have to have to make some room by clearing out the old corporate clutter.
I realise that one man’s junk is another’s treasure but some of our behaviour is going to have to change, if we really want a different way of doing business in the future.
A good starting point would be for each of us to identify the old world practices that we would like to see eliminated.
In George Orwell’s classic 1984, Room 101 was the torture chamber in the Ministry of Love; where victims encountered their worst fears so I am asking you to think what business practices you would like to put in Room 101 and then throw away the key?
My choice is the redundant IT-centric paradigm (q.v.)

Colin has an interesting perspective on “business behaving badly”. It seems that business processes in both operations and IT change when they have seen value in changing them. Especially when someone (like an architect) has offered an attractive alternative. Once they have adopted change, they have a hard time believing they did it any other way.

Hi Colin,
I will constraint my comment to IT (because I would like to include many others in the Room 101).
My choice is “Best Practices”…that plasters many companies when they decide to implement IT systems. Best practices should be a reference not a mandatory guidance to implement a system.
