The apparently slow demise of print publications and the downward trend of online advertising revenue is making more publishers and content providers think seriously about introducing so-called ‘paywalls’ – where original content and information is available only to paying readers. Let’s admit it, we all know that the IT job sector is shrinking faster than you can say: “Return on Investment.” Bryan Glick has blogged about Why IT and the real world don’t mix Bryan’s piece looks at a review of the Integrated Childrens System (ICS) and makes the usual observations about IT projects. But I say the real reason that IT and the real world don’t mix is because there is no logical point of direct interface [...] We urgently need to plug the brain drains. How many potentially great ideas are never shared and are lost to the world? Caught in the slipstream of ChangeThese are turbulent times and common-sense dictates that, when the winds die down, we should not expect everything to be exactly as it was before. Despite the oft-vaunted remarks of Gordon Brown that “new technology” will deliver much-needed efficiencies in the Civil Service, we still see more evidence to the contrary.
